Why we started Banavrit

Banavrit was founded in 2025 in Kushinagar, Uttar Pradesh. It started from something every banana farmer already knows: once the fruit is cut, the entire plant becomes a problem. Farmers pay labour to clear it, and what is cleared is dumped or burned.

India generates around 146 million tonnes of banana biomass a year and recovers economic value from roughly one per cent of it. The same farmers then buy chemical fungicides, because the biological alternatives on the shelf are talc-based, storage-sensitive and carry colony counts too low to do the job. Soil loses organic carbon at one end and takes chemical residue at the other.

We use the waste to fix the chemical problem. Banana pseudostem and leaf become the growing substrate for Trichoderma, and the result is a range of biological inputs — the Trichom Patch, a liquid biofungicide, a powder and a microbial compost — delivered to the root zone rather than sprayed.

Everything about that claim is meant to be checkable by someone who has never met us. The strains are registered with GenBank, the colony counts are measured by an NABL-certified laboratory and carry report numbers, the formulation is covered by a published patent, and the field trials were run with SHUATS. The company is incubated at IIT (BHU) Varanasi.
